The 2016-2017 SSYRA winner is

The Terrible Twos by Jory John and Mac Barnett!

Sunshine State Young Readers Award
The Sunshine State Young Reader’s Award Program is a statewide reading motivation program for students in grades 3-8. The program, cosponsored by the School Library Media Services Office of the Department of Education and the Florida Association for Media in Education (FAME), began in 1983. The purpose of the SSYRA Program is to encourage students to read independently for personal satisfaction, based on interest rather than reading level.

Sunshine State books are selected for their wide appeal, literary value, varied genres, curriculum connections, and/or multicultural representation. Students are encouraged to read books that are above, on, and below their tested reading level in order to improve their reading fluency. Third, fourth and fifth graders participate in SSYRA each year. Students are encouraged to read at least three of these books, which allows them, along with other students throughout the state, to vote for their favorite book.

Check out the SSYRA website.

Scholastic Book Fair
Twice a year, the Media Center sponsors the Scholastic Book Fair, which supports our school’s reading efforts. Students, parents, and teachers enjoy viewing a terrific assortment of books, hand-selected by book experts. Book Fairs help build school, classroom, and home libraries.

With the proceeds from the sales, the Media Center acquires thousands of dollars in new books, as well as profit to use to purchase technology and other materials for students and staff to use.

Box Tops for Education
Money earned from collecting Box Tops has helped America’s schools earn millions of dollars. Here at Julington Creek, the Media Center collects box tops to purchase all of the computers and other equipment that students can use in the Media Center. Classrooms that collect the most box tops earn the privilege of keeping our Box Top Banner!
To see listing of products with box tops and to see how how the program works, visit www.boxtops4education.com/AboutBoxTops/ We also collect Tyson’s products labels and the PTO collects Campbell Soup Labels.
